IELTS is easy.

If your medium of education throughout your school and college was English, chances are you are already at a level of around IELTS 6 plus. IELTS is a test of how well you can use English to convey your ideas and understand when you hear them in English. It is a test of what you already know. People mistake preparing for IELTS with preparing for general exams and start from zero which is not the case .

I booked for IELTS Academic test on 1st October 2020 and received the exam slot for 25th October. Before that I hadn’t even begun the preparation for the exam. With less than 4 weeks in my hands, I began preparing for the test. Right from the start I knew I had to be smart about the way I approach this exam and my logical first step was to find out where I stand and accordingly allocate my energy and time. To estimate my current level I immediately took a sample exam available on IELTS website. I was a little relieved to find that my reading and listening skills were above average (normally it is above average if English was your medium of education in school and college).

I was then left with speaking and writing as my areas of concern. I referred to the below mentioned links to address those worries:

  1. Free Edx course for IELTS preparation.
  2. Free IELTS goldmine by Elizabeth Mathews- https://ieltsliz.com/

I would recommend to go through every bit of information available on these sites, however it is always better to work on your weakness first and if you can spare more time then you don’t need any further assistance. With 3 weeks of preparation I was able to secure an overall band 8 and individual scores were also not too shabby L/R/W/S — 8.5/8.0/7.0/7.5

I see no reason that you cannot do the same if you follow the guidelines above.
